SOPORE: Moving ahead with his continuous efforts to change the traffic mechanism in the state of Jammu and Kashmir, Inspector General of Police (traffic), Basant Rath Sunday visited Sopore town in order to take stock of traffic management in the town.

Basanth Rath was seen advising many shopkeepers in the town not to occupy footpaths in future, which according to him create hurdles in the smooth flow of traffic movement.

According to the reports, Basant Rath was welcomed by the people in the Sopore town. “He is the first top rank traffic police officer to visit the Sopore town ever and we all welcome him,” said a group of locals in Sopore.

They said that traffic in the Sopore town is usually regulated by the Municipal Committee officials and they are not able to do justice with the job.

IG Traffic who was accompanied by SP Traffic (Rural) Muzaffar Ahmad and other officials started his tour from Degree College Road to main Chowk Sopore, through Iqbal Market, Bus Adda and other areas of the town.

All these places have been encroached by the shopkeepers and thus leading to massive traffic jams in the area.

Speaking to Kashmir Images, SP traffic Rural  Muzaffar Ahmad said that, a high brass of traffic police officials visited Sopore town to review the traffic situation here, which is badly affected from many years now.

“We haven’t seized any vehicle in the town because our motive of today’s visit was to warn everyone, who are adding to the traffic chaos in the town,” said Muzaffar Ahmad.

“We also want to setup one traffic unit in the town so that this long pending issue of traffic management is resolved,” he added.

Earlier in the day, IGP, Basanth Rath visited Gulmarg and took stock of traffic situation in the whole area.
