3 major surgeries performed at MCH Hospital Gandhi Nagar

JAMMU: Maternal and Child Health(MCH) designated Covid Hospital Gandhi Nagar of GMC Jammu today  performed at least  three major surgeries with four operation theatres of the newly constructed health institution made fully functional.

On directions of Financial Commissioner, Health and Medical Education Atul Dulloo, the MCH Hospital Gandhinagar was made COVID Hospital and since the first patients admitted in June 2020, more than 700 patients have been admitted, treated and discharged and till date.

Sufficient machinery and equipment have been provided by MD Dr Yashpaul Sharma JKMSCL.

The JKMSCL provided ventilators, monitors, autoclaves, theater tables, Theatre lights, defibrillators, cauterys, laboratory equipment, blood storage equipment, beds for ICU and general wards and all other equipment required for the hospital.

For the last few months, under the leadership of Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma, Principal & Dean GMC & AHs Jammu, the Government Medical College administration has worked tirelessly to make MCH fully functional.

Multiple meetings chaired by GMMC Principal and rounds were held wherein Medical Superintendent SMGS, Medical Superintendent MCH Gandhinagar, Heads of Departments of Anaesthesia, Gynae & Obstetrics, Pediatrics, Surgery, Orthopedics, ENT, Medicine etc along with Executive Engineers of PWD, Electrical and Mechanical took repeated initiatives to make the hospital fully functional.

On Friday, three major operations were performed at MCH by the Department of Surgery, Department of Obst and Gynae and by Department of Orthopedics.

The first case operated on a post burn contracture of a 45 year male. The second case was operated by Gynae team of Lower segment Caesarean section commonly called as caesarean section done on a 25 Year female. Third case was operated by orthopedics team.

Surgery team performed under the supervision of HOD Surgery Dr. Noor Ali, Dr. Ratnakar Sharma, Dr. Kailash Singh, Dr. Javed and Dr. Sharang.

Anesthesia team performed under the supervision of HOD Anesthesia Dr. Samriti Gulati by Dr. Rajesh Mahajan, Dr. Sanam, Dr. Neelam, Dr. Mubadil and Dr. Abhilash Gupta.

The Gynae team was headed by HOD Dr. JyotiHak, Dr. Baba Ram, Dr. Rishu and Dr. Kamakshi, incharge Gynae theaters SMGS SmtPawan.

Orthopedics team was led by Dr. Sanjeev, Gupta, Dr. Rashid, Dr, Zubaid, Dr. Aamir and Dr. Nitish.

Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma, Principal & Dean GMC & AHs Jammu took a post operative round of hospital and met all operated patients.

Dr Manoj Chalotra, Medical Superintendent, SMGS & Dr Arun Sharma, Medical Superintendent, MCH Gandhinagar were also present.

Later, Dr Shashi Sudan Sharma also visited Government Hospital Gandhinagar Jammu (Health) and thanked Dr IndraButyal, Medical Superintendent for collaboration in getting the surgeries done and also hoped for future collaboration, especially for Blood Bank Services and Diagnostics etc.

Other hospital staff of MCH who coordinated in the operations included Dr Krishan Kumar MO incharge; Mamta Sharma Sr Staff Nurse; Pooja Nair incharge nursing; Romi Sharma, Infection Control Nurse; Anamika Sr staff nurse; Raj Kumari jr staff nurse and others.

It is pertinent to mention that from 17.04.2021 onwards all Covid positive patients from surgical specialties like Surgery, Orthopedics, Gynae, ENT, Eye etc shall be operated at MCH.

The MCH is a 200 bedded hospital, with an oxygen pipeline with manifold backup available at all the beds. It has 4 state of the art OT’s

MCH, Gandhi Nagar is a Covid Hospital where all Covid positive patients from all surgical specialties requiring surgeries shall be operated henceforth. The concerned HODs have been asked to prepare roasters of staff for posting in Covid hospital by rotation as per Covid-19 SOP’s/ guidelines.
