Srinagar: Unidentified gunmen Sunday afternoon shot dead a 35-year-old man in Magam area in central Kashmir’s Budgam district.

Police said the militants fired on Nasir Ahmad Khan, son of Ghulam Mohammad Khan, near his residence in Buchipora in the Magam area of the central Kashmir district this afternoon.

They said Khan was rushed to a hospital, where he succumbed to the injuries.

While reports said the deceased was working in the police as a Special Police officer (SPO), police refuted the claim.

“No, there is no such thing. He was a civilian,” SSP Budgam, Tahir Saleem was quoted as saying by a local news agency.

He said the gunmen fired “five to eight bullets” at Nasir Ahmad Khan.
