Majid said he was hired by a Jammu-based company to kill a contractor, Nisar Ahmad of Padshahi Bagh area of the city.

The accused said he was ‘provoked’ to attack Nisar, who according to his bosses, was hiring non-local laborers from different parts of India to work in Kashmir Valley.

He alleged that his bosses, whom he identified as Abhijit Singh and Harry Singh from Pathankot, and one Shahnawaz Reshi from Athwajan, “use local Kashmiri youth for target killings”.

“I am ashamed and seek forgiveness from Nisar Sahab and his family,” he said.

Since the lockdown due to COVID-19 was in force last year, “we were unemployed and looking for a job desperately. I was hired by a Jammu-based construction company, which later gave me contract to kill Nisar,” confessed Majid.

He said some 20 other youths who were also hired by the company on his recommendation, were also involved in the act. Majid along with three of his friends was later taken into custody by the police and shifted to Police Station Kothibagh here.

When contacted, Station House Officer (SHO) Police Station Kothibagh, Mohammad Ishaq told ‘Kashmir Images’ that the accused was later shifted to Saddar Police Station for further investigation into the instant case.
