Dorjay inspects construction work on Tiri-Phoo road

LEH, APRIL 14 – Minister for Cooperatives and Ladakh Affairs, Chering Dorjay along with Chief Executive Councillor, LAHDC Leh, Dorjey Motup today visited Tiri Phoo – one of the remotest villages in Leh – to take stock of the ongoing construction work on 10 km long Tiri-Phoo road in Rong-Changthang area of the district.

The Tiri-Phoo road would be constructed at the cost of Rs 7 crore under NABARD. The construction of this vital road link would not only prove beneficial for people of the village but also boost the influx of tourists on famous pilgrimage destination in the Himalayan region known for its Stupa, which is believed to be similar to Chalung Khashor Stupa of Nepal.

The villagers expressed gratitude towards the government for completing the road and informed that a thousand devotees have already visited the holy place with the opening of the road link.

While addressing the gathering at Tiri-Phoo, the Minister appreciated the tireless endeavor of engineers of Special Sub Division Nyoma, contractors and villages who contributed in the construction of road in such a difficult terrain.

The Minister said that with the arrival of the road, the village would witness varied kind of developmental activities in coming years. For construction of Community Hall at Tiri-Phoo, the Minister announced Rs 3 lakh out of his Constituency Development Fund to initiate the works.

The Minister urged the youth to operate new trekking routes via Tiri-Phoo to Korzok and Tiri-Phoo to Gya. He directed Executive Engineer, SSD Nyoma to widen sharp turns at few locations on priority to ensue plying of heavy vehicles including buses upto Tiri-Phoo village.

The Minister was informed that the tenders for widening of all the sharp turns on the road has already been floated and widening works would start soon.

CEC, LAHDC Leh Dorjey Motup directed the engineers to strengthen irrigation khuls along with road construction so that farmers could sow their crops timely. He assured farmers to give land compensation for their agriculture land that comes under road projects.

Earlier, the Minister and CEC also interacted with people of Hamya and listened to their grievances and assured to address their genuine demands priority wise.

Superintending Engineer, PWD Leh S.K Pandita, SDM Nyoma Tsering Motup, Executive Engineer, Special Sub Division Nyoma Mohan Lal and other engineers were also present on the occasion.
