FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Srinagar: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Srinagar, Mohammad Ajaz Asad on Saturday asserted that the city has recorded steep surge in COVID-19 positive cases over the past few days, and that the trend is ‘worrisome’ indeed.

Talking to reporters on the sidelines of a meeting with the higher-ups of Health department at his office chambers here, DC said the positivity rate per day was consistent in February which has increased in March.

Advising people to follow COVID-19 SOPs like wearing face masks and maintaining social distancing in letter and spirit, Asad said the pandemic is not over yet over, hence taking the deadly virus for granted will be absolutely wide of mark.

He also warned strict actions against those who are found roaming without wearing face masks in public places from today onwards. He said besides imposing fines, the violator will have to go through Rapid Antigen Testing (RAT) on the spot.

“Srinagar city has recorded steep surge in COVID-19 positive cases over the past few days, now more than 70 cases are being reported per day which is worrisome for us,” DC added.

He said some important decisions were taken during a meeting with the Health officials to prevent COVID-19 transmission in Srinagar.

“Those found roaming without wearing face masks in public gatherings, public places, hotels, malls or anywhere else will be fined on the spot. Our team will instantly reach to the spot to conduct on-spot Rapid Antigen Testing of the violator,” he added.

Regarding travelers, he said travelers are being tested at airport on their arrival and those found positive are instantly isolated.

“If today we take enough measures, we will be able to protect ourselves, our family, neighbors and our city. So far as travelers are concerned, they are tested at the airport, and anyone found positive is isolated,” DC Srinagar added.
