4 youth prevented from joining militant ranks in Budgam and Ganderbal: Police

Srinagar: Prompt action by Police in Budgam and Ganderbal prevented four youth from joining militant ranks and after proper counselling were handed over to their parents, a police spokesman said.

“In Budgam, Police received information that two teenagers had left their houses and went missing on 14th March 2021. Accordingly, police teams were constituted and subsequently tracked and recovered both the youth in Tral area of Awantipora. Both the youth are in their early teenage, and had got influenced on social media to join terrorist ranks. They were instigated by Pakistan based recruiting handlers through social media handles,” the spokesman said.

“Both the youth were properly counselled in presence of their family members and handed over to their parents,” he said.

The spokesman said: “Meanwhile, in Ganderbal, Police have also saved two youth residents of Batwina and Kurhama area of Ganderbal who left their houses to join terrorist ranks and had initially gone to Shopian. Further when they reached to Karannagar-Batamaloo axis, they were apprehended by Police.”

“Facts have been revealed by the duo that they were motivated by Pakistan based terror handlers to join terrorism and asked to establish contact with their ground cadre in District Shopian. After proper counselling, both the youth will be handed over to their parents,” he said.

“Their families have hailed the efforts of police and thanked J&K Police for their timely action. The members of the society said that due to swift action by police, the lives and future of the boys has been saved from devastation,” he added.
