JAMMU: Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar today chaired 82nd Board of Directors (BoDs) meeting of Jammu and Kashmir Road Transport Corporation (JKRTC) at Civil Secretariat here.

The meeting was attended by Commissioner Secretary, Transport Department, Hirdesh Kumar; Director General Codes, Shadi Lal Pandita; Development Commissioner Works, Sami Arif Yesvi; Chief Engineer, Mechanical, Rashid Ahmad Dar; Managing Director, JKRTC, Angrez Singh Rana; Additional Secretary, Housing and Urban Development, Additional Secretary, Finance  and other concerned officials of the department.

The BoDs discussed various items pertaining to the corporation during the meeting besides detailed deliberations were held on the action taken report of decisions in earlier board meetings.

Advisor Bhatnagar, who is also the Chairman of BoDs, emphasized upon the need for evolving an effective mechanism and innovations to improve the efficiency and making the corporation a profit-worthy public utility.

He called upon the officers to prepare a proper business plan for the success of the corporation and asked the management to adopt a model which would be viable in terms of revenue generation as well as an effective transport system.

Suggesting several measures to improve the health of the Corporation, the Advisor asked the officials to increase the operationality of the truck fleet so that maximum profit can be generated by the corporation.

He further asked the management to explore the possibilities for using the unutilized workshops of corporation for private services also so that profits can be generated for the corporation.

Advisor Bhatnagar stressed upon the officers to initiate appropriate measures to strengthen the transport network in Jammu and Kashmir besides transport network models of other States should be explored for adopting efficient and economical transport system in J&K.

Taking a significant decision, the board during the meeting increased the wages as per Minimum Wages Act for all the skilled employees of the corporation. They also decided to examine the cases of compassionate appointments under SRO-43

The BoDs approved the implementation of Intelligent Transport Management System (ITMS) for improving the transport system in J&K.

The Board also decided to recast the route plan for JKRTC so that the new fleet is utilized for an efficient public transport system as well as public distribution system across J&K.

The Board also approved the constitution of Technical committee for the finalization of purchases and other related aspects of the Corporation.

During the meeting, MD JKRTC gave a detailed presentation highlighting the performance and achievements of the corporation in the last year.

MD JKRTC informed the meeting that the corporation generated revenue of Rs. 87.16 crores during the financial year 2019-20; Rs. 77.44 crores as operational revenue and  Rs. 9.72 crores as Non Operational revenue.
