Srinagar: A family from Fakir Gujree Harwan, on the city outskirts, Monday appealed to the administration to compensate them against the land they provided to the government to construct a school building some twelve years ago.

Twelve years on, Noor-ud-Din Lali, who lives in a single room with his family, runs from pillar to post to seeking compensation for the land he provided for the construction of school building on the instance of Dr Farooq Abdullah.

Talking to ‘Kashmir Images’ Lali said the then Union Minister for New and Renewable Energy, Dr Farooq Abdullah, back in 2009, requested him to provide one kanal land to the government so that the children of Fakeer Gujri get education.

He said Farooq has, in front of entire village, promised him government job if he donated his land for the school. “I am a poor laborer, I live in a single room for the last twelve years as I am yet to be compensated against the land I had provided for the construction of school building,” Lali said.

He said that he has knocked the doors of every minister, legislator and bureaucrat but could not get anything except their hollow promises.

Lali alleged that Farooq Abdullah and then Deputy Commissioner Srinagar have “cheated him” and allegedly grabbed his ancestral land.

“I used to cultivate maize on the piece of land I provided to the government. Now I have to work as a laborer to sustain my family. I have spent half of my income to get my documents completed, but even today I am only visiting different offices for compensation,” he added.

He appealed to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to personally intervene into the matter so that he is compensated.

“I urge to the Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha to intervene and get the matter examined afresh. Kindly have pity on me and my family,” Lali appealed.
