Interacting with the delegations, Sagar said that the government has been shouting that everything was hunky dory in Jammu and Kashmir but the ground situation was contrary to the high pitched bravado created by the ruling dispensation, said the spokesman.

“In a bid to secure political hold over the region the GOI has lost sight of issues suffered by the people in the form of governance deficit, administrative inertia and sky-scraping rate of unemployment.  The picture on the front of security is even worse.  The steep increase in the deaths of security personnel, targeted killings of civilians and recurring encounters explain it all. There is no semblance of peace, good governance in this part of the world.   The region has been relegated into the hands of related bureaucracy, which has no idea about the local issues. The defining feature of the government is the soaring household income, increasing employment, and administrative inertia.   The widespread policy myopia of the government towards J&K has increased the suffering of people.  On the political front, the people across J&K are feeling less of a citizen than other parts of the country on account of curtailment of their constitutionally guaranteed rights,” the spokesman quoted Sagar as saying.

Remarking on the repressive, lopsided and heavy taxation being levied on people, Sagar said, “The insensitiveness of the government can be ascertained by the way people are being overburdened with taxes ranging from toll taxes, property taxes, to houses taxes. The new taxation regime is hurting our marginalized farmers, salaried class and other weaker sections of the society.  When it comes to giving the money back to people the government turns blank. Work on all the major road, sewage, drainage, health and education projects has been put into a cold storage. The plight of agriculture and its allied sectors is equally depressing,” he said.
