Sprint Event for Sking Mountaineering of women held at Gulmarg

DG, SAI flags off players for Ski mountaineering

SRINAGAR: On the first day of 2nd Khelo India National winter games at Gulmarg, Jammu and Kashmir, Director General, Sports Authority of India (SAI), Mukund Pradhan, today flagged off women players for Sking Mountaineering of Sprint Event at Church slope, Gulmarg.

Seven players participated in the event including three from Uttrakhand, two from J&K and one each from Orissa and Madhya Pradesh.

Each one of the seven players tried their skill with experience at their back, but Menaksha from uttrakhand stood ahead by securing first position and completing the event in just 4 minutes and 30 seconds, Ishani from J&K obtained second position with a duration of 4 minutes and 35 seconds while Sheetal from Uttrakhand got 3rd position and it took her 4 minutes and 59 seconds to cross the final line.

Speaking on the occasion, DG, SAI said that winter games will capitalize the sports potential of the J&K and will assist youth of the state to prove their talent at national and international level.

He said for the development of sports infrastructure in J&K different plans are in offing.

He said that despite the challenges caused by COVID-19 pandemic, the conduct of winter games is a huge success. He wished players success in their pursuits and added that it will give participants experience to take challenges while in competition at different stages of their sports career.

Officers from the sports department, coaches, public and media persons were also present on the occasion.
