Srinagar: National Conference on Wednesday raised the issue of what it termed as “unfair mode of selection of DDC chairman” in Budgam with CEC J&K, terming the entire exercise a clear violation of law and rules.

According to NC press release, while bringing the “unfair” mode and manner of the exercise to the notice of the CEC KK Sharma, party’s Member of Parliament Hasnain Masoodi said that the way the procedure was conducted, has undermined democracy.

“It is the betrayal of people’s mandate. The mode and manner in which the entire exercise was conducted has already been brought to light by nine DDC members of Budgam district with the media the other day. Out of the nine members eight belong to NC and one to PAGD. Such inequitable occurrences will discredit the entire election process,” Masoodi said, adding that such undue measures will prove counterproductive.

“The mechanism framed for the selection of DDC chairman, it goes without saying, is to facilitate horse-trading and defections.  But as such defection has been ruled to be in violation of the mandate; the same should apply to the process of election of DDC chairpersons,” he said.

He impressed upon the CEC to look into the matter to ensure preeminence of rules and laws is upheld during the election process.

The CEC assured Hasnain Masoodi that he will look into the matter, the NC press release said.
