SRINAGAR: Scores of residents from Larnoo, Kokernag area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district Monday held a protest here to press for re-polling on DDC Seat 08-Larnoo.

Holding placards which read “Do justice with democracy and don’t change vote with note”, dozens of residents, amidst sloganeering appeared at Lal Chowk here this afternoon and staged a protest to press for re-pooling on the particular seat.

The protesting residents said the PAGD candidate Khalida Bibi won the seat with the margin of seven votes, however, her success did not auger well with her nearest rival Sajida Begum, who in turn filed an appeal for ‘recounting’ before the appellate authority.

Recounting of the votes for 08-Larnoo DDC Constituency according to the order issued by District Panchayat Election Officer (DPEO) was held on 5th of this month at Ground Floor of New Conference Hall, Dak Bungalow Khanabal.

Protesters appealed the Lieutenant Governor and the Chief Election Commissioner (CEO) to issue an order for re-polling on seat-08 Larnoo to satisfy the collective conscience.

“We don’t have any personal animosity with anyone, nor do we intend to fight; our sole demand is to order re-polling on Seat-08 Larnoo which was earlier won by our candidate,” Ali Mohammad Mir, a protester told reporters.

Mir said the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Khalida Bibi, who contested DDC elections on PAGD ticket, emerged victorious “but the authorities in order to pave way for a particular candidate ordered re-counting on said seat”.

“We appeal the administration not to make fun of democracy, we want re-polling on that particular seat, and that there should be no dispute on it,” he added.
