Srinagar: Up in arms against the School Education department for alleged ‘contempt’ of court orders, the empanelled Rehbar-e-Taleem (ReT) teachers today held protest here against ‘inordinate delay’ in issuing appointment orders in their favor.

They alleged that the School Education department in sheer violation of High Court directions issued orders to “blue-eyed candidates” while already empanelled ReTs are running around for justice.

The aggrieved ReTs, holding placards which read “Respect High Court orders, Wake up Commissioner Secretary” amid sloganeering assembled at the Press Enclave here this afternoon and staged a protest to press for issuance of their appointment orders.

Mudasir Hussain, a protester said the authorities despite clear-cut directions from the High Court have so far failed to issue appointment orders in their favor. He however alleged that appointment orders were issued to some 40 “blue-eyed candidates” from time to time since 2016.

“Government in 2016 issued an order directing ReTs to go for screening test, we assailed the order in the High Court and got directions for the state not to hold screening test of already empanelled ReTs but to check their certificates and issue appointment orders if proved to be genuine,” he added.

He said the government has since then been “making lame excuses” to avoid issuing appointment orders in their favor. He said the UT administration has committed ‘contempt’ of court orders by delaying issuing appointment orders to them.

“Why isn’t the School Education department issuing appointment order to us when there are precise directions from the High Court and other subordinate courts? We had already organized a mega protest earlier this month and we will continue our struggle till our genuine demand is met,” the protestors said.
