Holding placards which read “We are depressed, conduct online exams”, dozens of students including girls from various polytechnics of the Valley amid sloganeering gathered at Press Enclave here this afternoon and staged  protest to press for online exams.

Farhan Mushtaq, a protesting student alleged that the Board of Technical Education wasted their academic year by delaying the conduct of their exams. He said either the authorities should conduct their exams through online mode or announce mass promotion for them.

“This is 7th protest since 2019; it’s unfortunate that the Board of Technical Education does not bother to conduct our exams. Our exams were supposed to be held in July last year but were later postponed due to COVID-19,” he added.

Farhan said the Board had in October last year announced mass promotion for those students who have cleared two or more subjects; however their exams are pending till date.

“In Leh (Ladakh), exams were conducted online and results were declared in three days. When we approached the higher-ups of the Technical Board, they categorically denied conducting our exams, whether online or offline,” he said.

He appealed to the Lieutenant Governor to look into the matter and impress upon authorities to either hold online exams or announce mass promotion in their favor.
