Sheikh Ashiq also assured that elections for KCCI would be held in March this in compliance with the directions passed by the Srinagar wing of Jammu and Kashmir High Court.

“We urge the authorities to look into the issue of Srinagar-Jammu national highway as frequent closure of thoroughfare makes both business community and common masses to suffer. Economy cannot prosper in a region where national highway remains closed for week’s altogether,” KCCI president said.

He said KCCI took up the issue of national highway with state government and the concerned Union Minister but no substantial steps were taken to mitigate the problems business community suffer due to the frequent closure of NHW.

“So far as KCCI elections are concerned, I assure people that same would be conducted in March this year. Since the matter is sub-judice, elections could not be held well on time. Elections would be conducted in compliance with High Court orders,” he added.

He said the KCCI endorses democratic process and seek support of business groups and civil society to help them conduct free and fair elections.
