NC expresses grief over incidents of fire in Kupwara, Nawakadal

Srinagar: The Jammu and Kashmir National Conference on Monday expressed profound anguish over the incident of conflagration that destroyed several shops in Iqbal Market of Kupwara town.

In a joint statement, Party’s senior leaders Choudhary Muhammad Ramzan, Mir Saifullah and District President Kupwara Qaisar Jamsheed Lone expressed grief over the unfortunate incident and demanded compensation to the affected traders.

“The fire had broken out inside one of the shops located in the market, which soon engulfed the nearby shops damaging the property of worth lacks.  The efforts of the locals from adjoining areas to stop the further spread of the flames are commendable.  However several shops couldn’t be saved despite fire tenders reaching the spot.  It is not just the property that has been reduced to ashes in the unfortunate incident; merchandise worth lacks of has also been damaged in the incident. The losses to the traders run in lakhs,” they said demanding adequate compensation to the affected. The leaders also demanded an inquiry into the incident. They also demanded a fire and emergency Mini Station in the market to cater to such eventualities in the adjoining areas and the market itself.

Meanwhile, former Speaker Mubarak Gul has expressed anguish over the fire incidents at two localities Malbab Sahib, Watal Kadal localities of Shar-e-Khas in which several houses suffered severe damages. Demanding adequate compensation to the affected, Gul said the administration should also ensure that the affected families do not surfer for the want of thermals, edibles and lodging.  He has also expressed sympathies with the affected families.
