J&K govt signs MoU with ICSI for up-skilling of college students

Jammu: The Jammu and Kashmir Higher Education Department on Monday signed a Memorandum of Understanding with the Institute of Company Secretaries of India for up-skilling of students enrolled at the Cluster Universities of Srinagar and Jammu.

The MoU is part of the department’s initiative of up-skilling the undergraduates across J&K by embedding skill courses in the curriculum or offering them as Certificate, Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Degrees while they graduate from the institutions of higher learning, a statement said adding many sectors like agriculture, horticulture, fashion technology, paramedical, pharmacy, nursing and food technology had been identified in this regard.

The event was held at SPMR College Jammu while Degree College Bemina Srinagar participated the event through virtual mode, the statement said.

Director Colleges J&K, Dr M Y Peerzada, who presided over the function, underscored the importance of the skill programs particularly in the arena of Company Secretaries.

The Director Colleges said the skill programme will help in development of industrial, entrepreneurial and social skills in students as per the requirements of the market.

He said that the department is working on developing existing faculty in various skills adding the college principals have been empowered to take the services of any faculty across the country having expertise in the select skill. He also appreciated the principals of host colleges for taking a lead in the skill enhancement pursuit.

President ICSI, Ashish Garg, in his opening remarks stated that the corporate world is in a dire need of the youth with problem-solving skills.

He assured that his institution will support for the successful implementation of the MoU for the larger benefit of students of Jammu and Kashmir.

Principal SPMR, Prof (Dr) Ranjeet Singh Jamwal, in his welcome address emphasized the need to up-skill the students as evoked by NEP 2020.

Principal AAAMDC, Bemina, Prof Nasreen Aman said that the gap between education and employability is increasing and it is the responsibility of teachers to identify specific skills in their students and guide them with right orientation and development.

Chairman Srinagar Chapter ICSI, Yasmeen Almas presented the vote of thanks.

The event was attended by various dignitaries from Higher Education, ICSI Srinagar and Jammu chapters, faculty and students of host colleges.
