Finally there is a good news, a news that gives hope that unlike 2020, this year (2021) would be safe for humans. The wait is over. The first batch of Covishield vaccine from Serum Institute of India, Pune reached Srinagar. The administration is all set to launch the vaccination drive in Kashmir and understandably those directly dealing with the Covid-19 patients would be vaccinated on priority. Health workers, doctors, nurses, anganwari workers, all those from line Covid-19 warriors would be given the shots of vaccine so that they perform their duties without any inhibitions and risks. These warriors have done commendable job during the pandemic and continue to do so. 2020 was a challenging year. It disturbed the entire humankind and every soul got impacted in one way or the other. Covid-19 killed people, destabilized economies, destroyed education sector and traumatized the humans. Thanks to the efforts of scientists, the humans are now ready with a vaccine that hopefully would be a potent tool in human hands to defeat this pandemic.

Amid all cheer about the arrival of the vaccine, people need not be complacent. They have to strictly adhere to the Covid-19 guidelines and follow all the precautions. What happened in UK should be an eye opener for people here. While being cheerful about the good news, they need not to lower the guard. They have to understand that while the government machinery all over is making all efforts to have the vaccine and ensure the vaccination of masses, there still are many slips between the cup and the lips. And thus adherence to wearing masks and maintaining social distance is the key to remain safe. People have to adapt to the new norm. People have to make masks a permanent feature of their dress code. The virus has reached all corners of the world and therefore despite the availability of vaccine, it still remains a long drawn battle. This battle is to be fought by every individual by following all necessary precautions.
