Traffic on Highway to remain suspended for next 10 days: Officials
FacebookTwitterWhatsapp

Srinagar: Authorities on Tuesday said that vehicular traffic will remain suspended on the Srinagar-Jammu national highway for some ten days owing to the portion of road sinking in at Kela Morh, Ramban, even as the National High Authority of India (NHAI) has proposed a Bailey bridge as an interim measure so that one-way traffic is allowed for vehicles carrying essentials.

News agency KNO quoted ADGP Traffic T. Namgyal as saying that the bridge at Kela Morh in Ramban is damaged, and there has to be concrete filling on one side of the bridge.

“Till the concrete is settled down fully, the chances of movement of traffic seem very bleak; it will take at least 10 days to restore the highway for the traffic movement.”

Meanwhile, NHAI authorities are planning to install a Bailey bridge as an interim measure and have roped in Border Roads Organisation ( BRO) as well.

“The Bailey bridge can help in restoring one way traffic on highway,” said an official.

A fresh communiqué by Traffic Police Headquarters J&K reads, “Jammu-Srinagar NHW shall remain closed due to sudden collapse of retaining wall of a bridge near Kela Morh, Ramban on 10.01.2021 at 6:20 pm. Repairing by concrete filling and settling of the concrete for making it motorable may take approximately 10 days as per P.D NHAI (road construction and maintaining agency). In the interim, to restore connectivity a Bailey bridge is being launched by BRO.”

Meanwhile, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir P K Pole said that stocks including food-grains are available for two-and-half months in Kashmir while as other essentials are available for another 15 days.

“There is no need to panic,” he said. (KNO)

Ironically, as the Srinagar-Jammu highway continues to remain closed with very little chances of its reopening anytime soon, black-marketing is at its peak in the Valley with people alleging that prices of essential commodities have gone up across Srinagar.

Consumers across the Valley are complaining that the prices of essentials including the vegetables have suddenly gone up.

They said that it seems that the sellers have been given free hand to loot the masses as no action is visibly being taken against the norm violators (sellers).
