5 drug peddlers arrested in Ganderbal, Awantipora: Police

Srinagar: Police in a series of action against drug dealings have arrested five drug peddlers in Ganderbal & Awantipora and recovered contraband substances and cash from their possession, a police spokesperson said on Sunday.

The spokesperson said: “In Ganderbal, Officers from Police Post Shadipora at a checkpoint established at Sumbal Bridge, intercepted a vehicle bearing registration number JK07- 0744 with two persons on board. They have been identified as Shahnawaz Ahmad War and Manzoor Ahmad Raina both residents of Resin Kullan Ganderbal. During checking, officers were able to recover 300 grams of Charas from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to Police Station where they remain in custody. Preliminary investigation reveals that the accused persons are involved in transportation/selling of contraband among the youth of the area.”

“In this connection police has registered a case vide FIR No.248/2020 under relevant sections of law in Police Station Ganderbal and initiated further investigation into the matter,” he said.

“Similarly. in Awantipora, Officers at a checkpoint established near Gas Plant Literbal Pampore intercepted a vehicle Tavera bearing registration number JK01AK-9899 with three persons on board. They have been identified as Yawar Yousuf Sofi, Lateef Ahmad Wani both resident of Kadlabal Pampore and Bilal Ahmad Shiekh resident of Kadlabal Pampore A/P Check Pehru Budgam. During checking officers were able to recover 13 kg of poppy straw concealed in a bag and cash amount of ₹32,000 from their possession. They have been arrested and shifted to police station where they remain in custody,” the spokesperson said.

“Case vide FIR No. 104/2020 under relevant sections of law has been registered and investigation has been set into motion.  Both the vehicles used in the commission of crimes have also been seized,” he added.
