Anantnag, Apr 07: Two persons were arrested for their alleged involvement in “militant activities” in south Kashmir’s Pulwama district and over five lakh rupees recovered from them, police said Saturday.

SP Awantipora Zahid Malik told ‘Kashmir Images’ that police and Army arrested a local youth who was working for militant outfit Ansarul Gazwatul Hind.

“The arrested youth Rafiq Ahmed Dar of Ghattukna Awantipora revealed that Ansarul Gazwatul Hind chief Zakir Musa provided him and his associate Abid Majeed Shiekh alias Raj Gada cash to get weapons for the outfit. Accordingly, we arrested Abid and on his instance recovered Rs 5.32 lakh from him,” the SP said.

The police official claimed that during questioning, “Abid revealed that this cash was looted by the militants of the outfit from Noorpora and Marhama branches of Jammu Kashmir Bank in December last year.”

A case vide FIR no. 50/18, under section 7/27, 18, 20, 21 Unlawful Activities Prevention Act in this regard has been registered at Police Station Awantipora.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman said, six youth, who were intending to join militancy, were counselled along with their family members and subsequently handed over to their parents.
