DDC Kupwara reviews progress in Horticulture, Agriculture sectors

KUPWARA, APRIL 07: District Development Commissioner Kupwara, Khalid Jahangir today convened a meeting to review progress and development under Agriculture and Horticulture sectors in the district.

Chief Planning Officer, Chief Agriculture Officer Kupwara, District Agriculture Officer, and other concerned were present in the meeting.

The Chief Agriculture Officer Kupwara informed the meeting that an area of about 39,900 hectares has been brought under Kharif crop and 12655 hectares under Rabi crop cultivation in the district.

The meeting also took a thorough review of horticulture sector of the district. It was given out that out of 28708 hectares of land, 19896 hectares is under fresh fruit and 8812 under dry fruit plantation. It was said that in the 2017-18 total production of fruits is expected around 339138 Mts and out of it 295078 Mts is fresh fruits and 44060 Mts dry fruits.

On the occasion, DDC directed the officials that the basic data of farmers should be uploaded in next 15 days. He also directed the concerned that the soil testing teams should be mobilized for the benefit of farmers.

He asked the concerned officials to identify the land for water harvesting tanks so that people do not face any difficulties in coming summer.

He further directed the concerned SDAO of Sogam to undertake a survey in Khumriyal-Shumriyal and Cherkoot areas in the production and demand of organic fertilizer and establish vermicompost units.

He also directed the officials of Agriculture, Horticulture, Animal Husbandry, Sheep Husbandry and others to join the hands and work in cooperation to ensure better results in marketing, increase in agricultural and horticultural activities for providing a boost to the economy of the district.
