Srinagar: Family member of an Army soldier from Shopian, who has been missing since past over three months now, hit streets here Wednesday to protest against authorities’ alleged failure to trace him

The protesting family said they ‘believe’ that 24-years-old Shakir Manzoor (missing soldier) of Rishipora village in Shopian in south Kashmir, “was killed after being abducted by unknown persons on August 2 this year.”

They also said that Shakir’s car was also set afire by his abductors which was later found in Kulgam district while his ‘bloodstained’ clothes were found in an orchard near his home.

The family members and other relatives of the army soldier assembled at Press Enclave here this afternoon to protest the alleged ‘lackadaisical’ approach of the authorities to trace out the “dead body of their kin”.

“We appeal to the police to locate the body of my son if he has really been killed. If he is alive, then police should expedite investigation and trace him out as soon as possible. It has been more than three months since my son went missing, but we still don’t know whether he is alive or has been killed,” said Manzoor Ahmad, father of the soldier.

He said that they have been running from pillar to post to ascertain the whereabouts of their missing son, however no one helps them to find him — dead or alive.

They appealed to the DGP and IGP Kashmir to intervene in the matter and direct police to expedite investigations in the instant case.

“We appeal to the DGP and IGP to kindly direct police to speed up investigation into the mysterious disappearance of my son. We demand his dead body for burial if he has been killed; or kindly trace him out in case he is still alive,” the father added.
