A.M.U Aligarh: Hundreds of students on Friday assembled at the Sir Syed Mosque lawn after the congregational prayer in Aligarh Muslim University and took out a peaceful march towards the University Circle. The protest was in solidarity with the people of Kashmir and particularly for those who were killed, maimed and blinded in the ongoing unrest by the indiscriminate use of pellets and bullets by the forces.

The protesters while seeking justice for the victims were holding banners and placards condemning the use of lethal pellet guns. They also chanted slogans against the United Nations for showing cold shoulder towards the Kashmir conflict.

Speaking on the occasion, the vice president of AMU Students Union, Sajad Subhan Rather urged the government of India to fulfill its promises made to the people of the valley.

“We don’t want freedom, we only want the fulfillment of the promise which J.L Nehru has made with the people of Kashmir. We demand that the right to decide the fate of the valley should only be given to the people of Kashmir. We were promised plebiscite and we are determined to achieve it sooner or later”, Rather added.

Hafiz Waseem, a PhD student of Biochemistry department while speaking on the occasion sought the removal of AFSPA in the valley. He said that under this law, the life, property and dignity of people are at stake. He also said that Kashmir is a political issue and should be solved politically.

Secretary of AMUSU, M. Fahad also spoke on the occasion. He said that peace cannot be restored by the use of pellets and bullets. It would further worsen the situation.
