The Democrats are banking on mail-in votes, largely in favour of Democrats, to give Biden the final push to the 270 electoral vote mark. Several states have allowed mail-in votes to be accepted after Election Day, as long as they were postmarked by Tuesday. Democrats typically outperform Republicans in mail voting, while the GOP looks to make up ground in Election Day turnout.

Meanwhile, Biden’s campaign said Wednesday it has legal teams standing by if Trump follows through with his threat to move court to stop the counting of votes. Trump, accusing Biden campaign of fraud, claimed he had already won the elections and further counting of votes was like committing a “fraud on the American public”.

Trump has won Florida, Texas, Iowa and Ohio. Biden, on the other hand, is projected to win Arizona. Biden, as of 7 PM IST had 238 electoral votes against Trump’s 213, according to The Associated Press (AP). A candidate needs 270 electoral votes to win the presidency.

So far, Trump is projected to win Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Idaho, Kansas, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, Nebraska, North Dakota, Oklahoma, South Dakota, Tennessee, West Virginia, Wyoming, Indiana, South Carolina and Utah. Biden, meanwhile, has taken Democratic-leaning states like California, Colorado, Columbia, Connecticut, Delaware, Illinois, Maryland, Massachusetts, New Hampshire, New Jersey, New Mexico, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, Virginia and Washington.
