‘National Unity Day’: Pledge taking ceremonies to take place across UT on October 31

SRINAGAR: To mark ‘National Unity Day’ (Rashtriya  Ekta Diwas), pledge taking ceremonies would be organized in the Civil Secretariat at Jammu and by the Divisional Commissioners, Deputy Commissioners and HoDs of the non-move offices on 31st of October 2020 at 10:00 am in their respective offices.

An official handout issued here today in this regard said that the Police Headquarters shall also be organizing March Pasts in the evening at Jammu and Srinagar to observe the National Unity Day.

It has, however, been decided that the Run for Unity, Which was organized last year, shall not be organized this year, in view of the Covid-19 pandemic.

In respect of other programmes and activities, it shall be ensured that preventive measures such as maintaining social distancing, wearing of masks, proper sanitization, avoiding large congregations, protecting vulnerable persons and other measures as per the guidelines issued by Ministry of Health and Family Welfare are adhered to strictly.

Further, the events could be webcast to reach out to the public at large, other modes of technology can also be used to avoid large congregations and for celebrating the occasion in a befitting manner.

The handout further read that “The 31st October is observed as the National Unity Day across the Country not only to commemorate the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, the architect of National Integration of the Independent India, but also to reaffirm the commitment of the citizen of India to uphold the security, unity and integrity of the country. Special events like ‘Taking of Pledge, ‘Run for Unity’, ‘March Pasts are organized to mark the celebration of this day, also known as Rashtriya Ekta Diwas.”

Rashtriya Ekta Diwas Pledge:

I solemnly pledge that I dedicate myself to preserve the unity, integrity and security of the nation and also strive hard to spread this message among my fellow countrymen. I take this pledge in the spirit of unification of my country which was made possible by the vision and actions of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel. I also solemnly resolve to make my own contribution to ensue internal security of my country.
