Srinagar, Apr 05: In a second such incident in as many days, suspected militants abducted a man and injured his father in Hajin town of north Kashmir’s Bandipora district late last night, police said.

Police spokesman in a statement said that militants barged into the house of Abdul Gaffar Bhat in Hajin around 11:15 pm and beat up the inmates.

They abducted both Gaffar and his son Manzoor Ahmad Bhat, said the spokesman, adding that Gaffar managed to escape from their custody despite suffering an injury.

“Abdul Gaffar has been hospitalised where he is being treated, but his son Manzoor is still with the militants. A massive manhunt to trace the abducted person has been launched,” said the spokesman.

In a similar incident, gunmen had abducted and killed another civilian Naseer Ahmad Sheikh alais Muntazir in Hajin on Monday night.

Police in a statement today said its investigations have revealed that one Mohammad Saleem Parrey of Hajin, who joined the militancy last summer and is associated with Lashkar-e-Toiba (LeT), is the “mastermind” behind the last two abductions in Hajin.

“Evidences collected so far indicate that, Saleem along with his  accomplices (foreign militants) on the 3rd of April, went to the house of in-laws of Naseer Ahmed Parrey, fired on the inmates injuring three of them, and abducted Naseer.

“They fired at two ladies and they were brutally beaten as well. Both of them are under treatment at hospital,” police statement said.

Naseer was found dead the other day in the outskirts of Hajin, with three firearm injuries in his abdomen.

Police spokesman also said “the group with Saleem as the key conspirator” barged into the house of Abdul Gaffar Bhat and took Gaffar and his 24-years-old son Manzoor with them.

Gaffar managed to escape  even after sustaining firearm injury while hunt is on t trace the abducted person, who is a shepherd by profession.
