Srinagar: Former minister and senior Congress leader Mohd Sharief Niyaz passed away after a brief spell of illness. His death has been mourned widely.

Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has conveyed his condolences and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul and forbearance to the bereaved family in this hour of grief.

Ghulam Nabi Azad, Leader of Opposition, Rajya Sabha, expressed his heartfelt grief on the passing away of former Minister and senior Congress leader.

“He was not only a person of unimpeachable integrity but also a hardworking Congress leader. Besides being a family member, he was a trustworthy public representative. He was always down to earth and a true source of inspiration,” Azad said in his message.

Azad also expressed his sympathy and solidarity with the bereaved family.

Apni Party president Syed Mohammad Altaf Bukhari also expressed grief and described the deceased as a thorough gentleman who had carved a place for himself among the people, his party and the J&K legislature.
