Tally of Covid-19 positive cases crosses 50K mark in J&K

Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir reported 1,578 new COVID-19 cases, taking the infection tally to 50,712 on Friday, while nine more coronavirus deaths in the last 24 hours pushed the union territory’s death toll to 854, officials said.

However, a local news agency, GNS, put the death toll at 858.

The news agency reported that while six infected people died in Jammu, four succumbed to the deadly virus in Kashmir division.

Meanwhile, this is the ninth day that J&K has witnessed over a thousand cases daily, taking the tally to 50712.

They said of the fresh COVID-19 cases, 808 were detected in Jammu region and 770 in the Kashmir Valley.

Jammu district reported the highest number of 415 new cases, followed by Srinagar (267), the officials said.

Giving the district wise breakup of the cases, they said, Srinagar reported 267 cases, Baramulla 43, Pulwama 34, Budgam 176, Anantnag 41, Bandipora 70, Kupwara 66, Kulgam 18, Shopian 8, Ganderbal 47, Jammu 415, Rajouri 64, Kathua 38, Udhampur 101, Samba 44, Ramban 27, Doda 26, Poonch 49, Reasi 2 and Kishtwar 42.

Moreover, they said, 474 more COVID-19 patients have recovered and were discharged from various hospitals— 137 from Jammu division and 337 from Kashmir Valley.

Of the latest COVID-19 fatalities reported in the union territory, six deaths were in Jammu region and three in the Kashmir Valley, they said.

There are a total of 15,169 active cases in Jammu and Kashmir, while 34,689 patients have recovered from the infection so far, the officials said.
