Sources said arms and ammunition was recovered along with the bodies from the river, which points to the possibility of the bodies being that of militants who may have slipped into the river and died due to drowning.

They said four AK 47 magazines, and 116AK rounds apart from 16 9mm RDS, one grenade, a wireless set and 04 wristwatches were also recovered by the army.

Meanwhile, quoting officials, news agency KNO reported that the bodies have been identified as of two Hizbul Mujahideen militants from south Kashmir.

The officials said that it seems that the duo had crossed the LoC recently and reached Tulail area of this side and might have died due to drowning.

Official sources identified the slain militants as Nisar Ahmad Rather son of Abdul Aziz Rather from Dadsara, Tral and Sameer Ahmad Dar son of Mohammed Yousuf Dar from Dogripora area of Pulwama district of south Kashmir.

They said that both were affiliated with the Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit while Nisar Ahmad was missing from his home since February 2018, while as Sameer, a driver by profession, was missing from his home since August 2019.

Both the militants had crossed into Pakistan administered Kashmir (PaK) to take the arms training and on return, the duo seemingly died while crossing the fast flowing river Kishanganga at Tulail resulting into their death.

“A case under relevant sections of law has been registered and further investigations initiated in this regard,” officials said.
