Trained tourist facilitators, landscapers, gardeners rendered jobless

Srinagar: Scores of youth, who were trained to become tourist facilitators, landscapers and gardeners in 2016, held a protest at press enclave today accusing the government of keeping them in dilemma.

Talking to KNO, they said that they got training under a Centrally Sponsored Scheme for tourist facilitators, landscapers and gardeners in the year 2016 and were promised jobs under the scheme.

“In 2016 turmoil in the Valley, then State administration announced fast track recruitment for local youth. Even 2020 is coming to an end and our issue is still pending,” said Shakeel Ahmad, a protestor.

Another member of the delegation said that around 3000 aspirants were trained under the “tourist facilitators scheme” at IHM, Rajbagh.

“We were promised that instant jobs will be provided after the completion of the training. Our files are complete with all the requirements but despite that nothing has been done so far,” he said.

He said that one day they are being told that the scheme was Kashmir centric and very few people were from Jammu division, that is why it has been kept pending and the other day authorities say the issue will be resolved soon.

“We request the government to come clear. Either provide jobs to us or tell us that you won’t be adjusted as we have already lost four years and we don’t want to lose more time,” said some of the protestors.

They appealed to the Lt Governor administration to look into the matter in order to “save the future” of trained aspirants.
