Militant killed in Kreeri area, second encounter in a week

Baramulla: Four days after a major gunfight in Kreeri Baramulla in which eight persons including three militants and five security forces personnel were killed, another encounter broke out in nearby Check-i-Saloosa Kreeri in which one militant was killed on Saturday.

Deputy Inspector General (DIG) of Police north Kashmir range Sueliman Chowdary said that following inputs about the presence of militants in dense orchards of Check-e-Saloosa in Kreeri area  a joint team of Army’s 52 RR, SOG and 176 Bn CRPF launched a cordon and search operation in the area.

“During the cordon and search operation, hiding militants fired upon a joint search party. The fire was returned triggering a gunfight in which one militant was killed,” DIG said.

He added that an AK47 rifle, five magazines and other arms and ammunition were recovered from the encounter site.

Meanwhile, Inspector General of Police Kashmir, Vijay Kumar identified the slain militant as top commander of LeT Anees Alias Chota Sultan from Pakistan.

Sultan was active since 2018 and was operating in Sopore, Zangeer and Bandipore areas.

Pertinently, this is second encounter in Baramulla district this week. 03 militants, 02 Army soldiers, 02 CRPF and 01 SPO of J&K police were killed in previous encounter at Kreeri.
