“He had received multiple bullet injuries in his head and legs, he died this morning due to excessive loss of blood,” Dr Nazir told ‘Kashmir Images’.

Abdul Hamid Najar, who was representing BJP as the President of OBC Morcha Budgam, was out on morning walk when militants fired upon him from close range leaving him critically injured. Although the injured BJP leader was shifted to SMHS hospital for treatment, he however succumbed to injuries this morning.

Meanwhile, Lt Governor Sinha strongly condemned the killing of the political leader.

The Lt Governor expressed anguish over the killing and said that the heinous act is an attempt to spread fear and there can be no justification for such attacks.

“The society does not have any space for perpetrators of violence and those involved in this cowardly act shall be brought to justice”, he said.

Najar was the fifth BJP leader to be targeted by militants in Kashmir valley in the past one month prompting scores others to tender their resignation from the saffron party.

A BJP leader and his father and brother were shot dead by unidentified militants in Bandipora district in North Kashmir on 8th of last month.

Similarly on August 6, militants killed a Sarpanch, Sajad Ahmad Khanday of Qazigund area in south Kashmir’s Anantnag district Another BJ Sarpanch, Arif Ahmad Shah was critically injured in militant attack in Kulgam district earlier this month.

Meanwhile, suspected militants on Monday made an abortive bid to target with grenade the residence of a Panch in Tral area of south Kashmir’s Pulwama district.

Sources said that the militants hurled a grenade towards the house of the panch Bupinder Singh and the device exploded outside his house without causing any harm to life or property, they said.

While some sources said that the said panch was affiliated with PDP, sources in police said that he had joined BJP.
