Khag residents demand compensation, jobs for their land taken for water supply schemes

Srinagar: The government has failed to deliver on its promise of providing jobs and compensation to the people whose land was utilized for construction of water supply schemes in Tehsil Khag of district Budgam.

According to locals, the people whose land was acquired by the government for construction of water reservoirs, collection tanks have not been provided jobs and compensation.

“We have completed all the formalities on our part but the file is pending in the Civil Secretariat. If the government can’t provide us a job then it should vacate our land,” said a local.

Many people from other parts of Kashmir alleged that they are facing the similar issue.

Advisor to Lieutenant Governor, Rajeev Rai Bhatnagar said that he will look into the matter.

Under Secretary Jal Shakti Department, Arifa Ashraf, said that there are around 1000 people whose land has been acquired by the government. “They have to be regularized but the decision is pending,” she added.
