Srinagar: Ten more people died of Covid-19 in Kashmir taking the death toll in Union Territory of Jammu and Kashmir to 288.

Those who succumbed to the deadly virus include a 55-year-old male from Nawakadal Srinagar, a 52-year-old woman from Zonimar Srinagar, a 46-year old woman from Gazriyal Kupwara, a 60-year old non local resident a 70-year old lady from Uri Baramulla, a 40-year-old from Chinkral Mohalla, Habba Kadal, Srinagar, an 86-year-old male from Firdous Abad Batamallo, a 62-year-old man from  Soimoh Tral, a 63-year-old lady from Shopian and a 65-year-old woman from Moomin abad Batamaloo.

Meanwhile, Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday recorded 718 new COVID-19 cases, taking the total number of infected persons in the Union Territory to 16429, officials said.

While 601 of these new cases were from the Kashmir, 117 were from Jammu division, they said.

There are now 7,438 active cases in the UT, while 8,709 patients have recovered from the infection, they added.

The cases detected on Thursday included 98 persons who had returned to the UT recently.

The officials said Srinagar district in central Kashmir recorded the highest of 158 new positive cases followed by 109 in Shopian and 106 in Kulgam district.

Officials said that out of 548877 test results available, 532448 samples have been tested as negative till July 23, 2020.

SEC sanctions Rs 15 cr for major health institutions to deal with COVID pandemic

Srinagar: The State Executive Committee (SEC), headed by Chief Secretary BVR Subrahmanyam, Thursday sanctioned Rs 15 crore under SDRF to major health institutions for further procuring essential labs and equipments for handling COVID pandemic.

SKIMS, Srinagar, GMC Jammu and GMC Srinagar will get Rs 5 crore each. The funds shall be placed with Divisional Commissioners of Jammu as well as Kashmir for this purpose, an official press release informed.

It said as per MHA guidelines, SDRF funds for COVID containment efforts in government hospitals can be utilized for setting up additional testing laboratories; procurement of personal protection equipment for health workers and other related consumables for these hospitals.

This funding under SDRF is over and above the funding that is being provided to Health department during the course of the year, the press release said.
