Election was earlier scheduled for today, however, was deferred till Thursday in view of the prevailing situation which arose out of COVID-19 and some other issues.

Talking to ‘Kashmir Images’, Secretary SMC, Sofi Akbar said, the election to the post of Mayor was scheduled for today, however same was deferred by two days for certain reasons.

“We had issued a corrigendum same day when date for the election to the Srinagar Mayor’s post was announced earlier.  We had written to Deputy Commissioner Srinagar and Commissioner SMC that elections will be held on 16th of July instead of 14th July,” Sofi Akbar said adding election will be held at Banquet Hall Srinagar at 10 am on Thursday.

Mattu resigned as a Mayor of Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) after losing no-confidence motion moved against him by the dissidents backed by former Deputy Mayor on June 16 last month.

Meanwhile sources at SMC said that Deputy Mayor Srinagar, Parvaiz Qadri is likely to face no-confidence motion to be moved jointly by Congress and independent Coprorators. However the date for floor test not been announced yet.

Sources said Qadri who is affiliated with National Conference may face the no-confidence motion in coming few days. He was elected as Deputy Mayor Srinagar after BJP moved a vote of no-confidence motion against Sheikh Mohammad Imran.
