Newborn among 10 dies of Covid-19 in J&K; Toll 181

Srinagar: An 11-day-old baby from Kulgam was among ten people who died due to Covid-19 in Jammu and Kashmir on Sunday taking the number of fatalities in Jammu and Kashmir to 181.

The newborn is the youngest Covid-19 victim in J&K, the officials said. Earlier, a 15-day-old baby from Bemina of Srinagar died of the infection on June 19. The newborn, from Yaripora Kulgam suffering from aortic stenosis with carcinogenic shock with respiratory failure, was admitted in SKIMS, Soura on July 9, hospital sources said.

Besides the baby, the other patients who died at SKIMS Soura include a 55-year-old woman from Kangan Ganderbal, a 60-year-old man from Gulab Bagh Ganderbal, 75-year-old from Rambagh Srinagar, a 47-year-old from Kulgam and 50-year-old man from Uri.

A 65-year-old man from Tangmarg, a 40-year-old from Habba Kadal and a 55-year-old resident of Chadoora died at SMHS hospital Srinagar. One Covid-19 patient died in Jammu.

With these deaths, 164 people in Kashmir and 17 in Jammu division have died so far due to the virus.

Srinagar district with 44 deaths has the highest fatalities followed by Baramulla (34), Kulgam (20), Shopian (16), Anantnag (14), Budgam (13), Jammu (10), Kupwara (9), Pulwama (5), Bandipora (3), Ganderbal (3) and Doda (2) while one death each has been reported from Poonch, Udhampur, Rajouri and Kathua.

Meanwhile, the tally of Covid-19 infected people in Jammu and Kashmir has reached 10513 with 357 testing positive for the disease on Sunday.

Officials said that 295 people from Kashmir and 62 from Jammu division tested positive while 10 fresh deaths, 9 from Kashmir and one from Jammu were reported today.

Officials further said that out of 452455 test results available, 441942 samples have been tested as negative till July 12, 2020.

They said that 313152 travelers and persons in contact with suspected cases have been enlisted for surveillance which included 37867 persons in home quarantine including facilities operated by government, 31 in Hospital Quarantine, 4,355 in hospital isolation and 45354 under home surveillance. Besides, 225366 persons have completed their surveillance period.
