Srinagar : Valley’s only tertiary care, Sheri Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura has recorded 06 Corona-Virus deaths since the outbreak of deadly disease in the valley while 53 affected patients were discharged after their repeat tests turned negative.
Statistics based on the daily COVID-19 survey said of the total 31 deaths, SKIMS reported 06 as on June 1, 2020. 53 suspected patients who were earlier tested positive have also been discharged from quarantine wards till date.
Official statistics released by the Department of Hospital Administration SKIMS revealed that out of the total 487 suspected patients registered at SKIMS, 419 have tested negative with only 08 positive patients under observation in the isolation wards of infectious disease block.
Of the total 53,817 samples tested at SKIMS lab till date, 904 suspected patients were tested positive and 52,913 tested negative while result of only 01 sample is awaited.
When contacted Medical Superintendent SKIMS Soura, Dr Farooq Jan told ‘Kashmir Images’ that 21 suspected cases of coronavirus were tested positive at SKIMS on Monday, June 1.
He said the SKIMS by and large facilitated sample testing and those tested positive were reported to immediate authorities and subsequently admitted at other hospitals of the valley.
He also said the hospital also received sub-quarantine cases and with the improvement in infrastructure patients are being admitted in other hospitals including SMHS.
When asked whether the spurt in COVID-19 positive cases poses any threat, MS SKIMS said the situation is not as serious as the patients being treated for coronavirus at different hospitals at present are stable which is a positive sign.
Dr Farooq Jan said since the COVID-19 positive patients receive quality treatment at hospitals, patients with other ailments demand attention.
“We have to learn to live with this virus now. As I already said there is no need to panic as positive patients are stable and not serious. What needs to be done is to follow guidelines properly and patients with serious ailments need to take extra precautions and stay aloof” MS SKIMS added.
