Burglars strike Gurudwara at Jawahar Nagar: loot cash, valuables

Srinagar: Taking undue advantage of the ongoing lockdown and subsequent closure of religious places amid COVID-19 outbreak, burglars struck Gudrudwara at Jawahar Nagar area of Srinagar city and decamped with cash and other valuables last night.

Locals aid the burglars looted rupees two lakh cash from donation box at Kalvi Dhar Gurudwara at Jawahar Nagar here. They said the burglary took place between 12 to 1 am last night. The incident of burglary was caught in a CCTV camera installed in the Gurudwara in which burglars are seen taking cash from the donation box. Besides cash, some other valuables were also looted from the place of worship.

They said burglars entered into prayer hall after breaking lock of the main gate of Gurudwara, looted cash and valuables before fleeing from the scene.

“We informed the police and a formal case was registered at police station Rajbagh in this regard. A police team led by SP South and SDPO Saddar also inspected the crime scene with officials of Forensic Science Laboratory (FSL) and collected samples for investigation,” said one of the members of Gurudwara Prabandakh Committee.

He said that two persons (burglars) are clearly seen in the CCTV footage taking cash from the small donation boxes as they cannot broke open the big one even if they used swords and other sharp objects for the purpose.

Police has registered a case FIR No. 42/2020 at Rajbagh police station in this regard and investigation has started on the basis of CCTV footage obtained from the Gurudwara.
