More than 99 K stranded persons return to J&K

Jammu, May 29: The Jammu and Kashmir administration on Friday said it has brought back 99,617 people stranded in other parts of the country due to the coronavirus lockdown.

Thirty-six special trains ferried back the stranded persons to Jammu and Udhampur railway stations, according to an official data.

A total of 99,617 persons stuck in other parts of the country have been brought back till now, it said.

As per the official data received in this regard, the administrations of Jammu and Kashmir districts have received 36 COVID special trains at Jammu and Udhampur railway stations from different states and UTs, so far, with about 28,911 stranded passengers while about 70706 persons have been evacuated by the government through Lakhanpur till date.

As per the detailed break up about the figures, about 1862 stranded passengers have entered through Lakhanpur from May 28 to May 29 morning while 743 passengers have reached today in the 16th Delhi COVID special train at Jammu. So far, 16 trains have reached Jammu with a total of 13,271 stranded passengers belonging to different districts while 15,640 passengers have reached Udhampur in 20 special trains, so far.

As per the official communiqué, of 70706 returnees evacuated through Lakhanpur till May 29, 2020 (morning) included 17219 from Punjab; 21566 from Himachal Pardesh, 21 from Andhra Pardesh, 6741 from Delhi, 1379 from Gujrat, 3092 from Rajasthan, 4040 from Haryana, 159 from Chattisgarh, 3490 from Uttarakhand, 1052 from Maharashtra, 4514 from Uttar Pradesh, 63 from Odisha, 267 from Assam and 1000 from Madhya Pradesh, 88 from Dehradun, 1298 from Chandigarh, 684 from Telengana, 116 from Karnataka, 21 from Tamilnadu, 52 from Chennai, 303 from Bihar, 160 from West Bengal, 107 from Jharkhand, 3 from Nepal and 3271 from other states and UTs.
