Two trucks seized selling the sugar in black-market in Pattan, divers arrested

Baramulla: While consumers in Kashmir valley face acute shortage of government subsidised sugar, police on Sunday seized two private trucks carrying the same sugar and arrested their drivers for selling the sugar in black market at Singpora Pattan in north Kashmir’s Baramulla district.

Sources said a police party from police station Pattan found two trucks loaded with government subsidised sugar selling the same in black market in Singpora village.

“The two private trucks bearing registration number JK01 E 5947, JK01T 4619 are hired by SRTC for CAPD department to carry government food supply but the drivers were selling the subsidised sugar in black market and were caught red handed by police party,” said Station House Officer Pattan Mir Saleem.

“Both the trucks were seized and their drivers residents of Kupwara were arrested and FIR No 62/2018 Under Section 407,411 RPC was registered in the police station Pattan,” SHO added.

The subsidised sugar provided by government is being sold in the black market with connivance of wholesalers and food inspectors, sources in CAPD department said.
