‘Dozens of Tangmarg villages being supplied contaminated drinking water’

Tangmarg: Dozens of Tangmarg villages in Sub-division Gulmarg are being allegedly supplied contaminated drinking water from Ferozpora Nallah.

Residents of Warapura, Fajapura, Mala, Bangal, Parswani, Atipora, Zahkar, Chaktan, Chahanapora, Zaspura, Darvishpora, Pazalpuora, Khammandarpura alleged that they are being supplied contaminated and unfiltered drinking water from Ferozpora Nallah.

According to the locals, this unsafe water has created a strong possibility of an epidemic outbreak in the area.

Shabbir Ahmed, a local resident of Warapora, said that for the past few days, they are being supplied dirty and unhygienic water.

However, it is learned that although the Jal Shakti Department had constructed a number of filtration plants in Tangmarg constituency to provide filtered water to the people but those plants have become useless.

When contacted Assistant Executive Engineer Sareer Ahmed, he said that due to recent rains and flash floods, water of Ferozepora Nallah has got contaminated with mud and silt, but department is trying its best to provide safe and pure drinking water to people.

He appealed the people to use boiled drinking water.
