Srinagar: Jammu and Kashmir recorded 8th COVID-19 death after an elderly lady from Lambh Mohalla Jogi Lankar area of old city died at Chest Diseases (CD) Hospital at Dalgate, officials said today.

With the death of octogenarian, number of COVID-19 casualties has gone upto 08 in Jammu and Kashmir including 07 in Kashmir and 01 in Jammu. Earlier a 65 year old man a resident of uptown Hyderpora locality died at CD Hospital on March 26 recording valley’s first death due to deadly Corona-Virus.

The lady aged around 85 a resident of Lambh Mohalla Jogi Lanker at Rainawari was tested positive for COVID-19 on Monday following which the authorities declared the area as Containment Red-Zone and sealed all entry and exit points as a precautionary measure to contain spread of deadly epidemic.

Confirming the death, Medical Superintendent, CD Hospital Dalgate Dr Saleem Tak said the elderly patient had history of ailments including diabetes, high blood, pressure and hypertension.

He said the lady who was admitted at the hospital on Monday after being tested positive for Corona-virus died today.

When contacted Tehsildar Khanyar, Samiullah Naqshbandi said the lady was tested positive after being discharged from the SMHS hospital where she was admitted three days ago.

“Since she had a history of multiple ailments including diabetes and hypertension, her family admitted her at SMHS hospital some three days ago. We doubt that the deceased lady might have contracted infection at the hospital. We are verifying the facts,” Tehsildar Khanyar told ‘Kashmir Images’.

He said the family members including her daughter, relatives and other acquaintances who might have unavoidably come into her contact have been put under 14 days quarantine at Hotel Sunshine Boulevard Road.

Naqshbandi said entire area of Lambh Mohalla Jogi Lankar has been declared as containment Red-Zone and the areas adjacent to it as Buffer Zones. He said all the entry and exit points of the affected area have been sealed and security heightened.

“We have sealed all entry and exit points. Only emergency exit was made available for people. In case of any exigency people can contact us on given helpline number. Rest necessary fumigation and sanitization has been started in the Red-Zone area.” Tehsildar added.
