This picture is viral on social media though no one from Tehreek-e-Hurriyat or Police has confirmed it as authentic.

Srinagar, Mar 24: The son of Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai, the newly elected chairman of Tehreek-e-Hurriyat, has reportedly joined the Hizbul Mujahideen, police said today.

“Junaid Ashraf Khan, the 26-year-old son of Sehrai, has joined the Hizbul Mujahideen militant group,” a police official said after a picture showing Junaid holding an assault rifle appeared on social media today — a day after he went missing from his home in uptown Srinagar..

Sehrai was on March 19 appointed chairman of the Tehreek-e-Hurriyat (TeH) Jammu and Kashmir, replacing Syed Ali Shah Geelani who held the post for 15 years.

The police official said Junaid Ashraf had been missing since Friday prayers yesterday and his family had also lodged a missing report with the police earlier today.

“The family has lodged a missing report with us. His brother Rashid Ashraf Khan arrived at the police station today afternoon. He told us that his brother Khan is missing since yesterday,” said a police official from Sadder police station where the family has lodged a missing report.

The family, as per police official,  has stated in the missing report that Junaid had went for Friday prayers and had told his family that he will return in the evening after repairing his mobile phone at Lal Chowk.

Junaid is a resident of Jehangir Colony in Srinagar’s Baghat area.

Meanwhile, a picture of Junaid with an assault rifle, has appeared on social networking websites. The message with the picture suggests that Khan has joined Hizb-ul-Mujahideen militant outfit.

The photo caption read “Junaid Ashraf, who has a master’s degree in business administration from Kashmir University, has been code-named Amaar Bhai”.

Ask your son, others to shun militancy: DGP urges Sehari

Srinagar, Mar 24: Terming as ‘unfortunate’ the joining of militancy by Tehreek-e-Hurriyat chairman Mohammad Ashraf Sehrai’s son, Director General of Police S P Vaid has urged Sehrai to appeal his son and other local boys to shun militancy.

“This is very unfortunate. I urge Sehari that since he is in command, he should appeal his son and other local boys wielding gun to return. He should himself take a lead in entering into a dialogue so that youth of Kashmir are saved from the path of violence,” Vaid was quoted as saying by a news agency.

The Picture of Sehrai’s son Junaid Ashraf Sehrai holding a gun has gone viral on social networking sites, while family has lodged missing report in Srinagar’s Sadder police station.
