5 militants, 3 Army men killed in ongoing Keran Sector gunfight near LoC

Kupwara: Five militants and three Army men were killed on Sunday in Keran Sector of North Kashmir’s Kupwara district along Line of Control.

” Five infiltrating militants were killed in ongoing anti-infiltration operation in Keran Sector of north Kashmir when alert troops braving inclement weather and hostile terrain foiled a major infiltration bid at Rungdori Behak area of Jumgund in Keran sector,” said a top Army official.

“Unfortunately, three soldiers injured during the gunfight succumbed to their injuries at Srinagar base 92 Base Army Hospital , others are presently undergoing treatment,” Defense Spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia in a statement issuedsaid, adding” Operation is in progress”.

Army have to rush elite para troopers to Rangdoori, Guguldara and Teen Behak area of Jumgund to fight the heavily armed militants. Sources said that firing continued throughout the night, reaching at peak wee hours of today.

From past four of days, Army was after them and on Sunday morning, 8 Jat regiment established a contact with them and during the encounter 5 militants were killed.

An official further said that choppers were pressed into service to track these militants at Rangdori Behak Kupwara. He said the operation is still in progress.
