Four militants killed in Kulgam encounter

Anantnag: Four militants were killed in an exchange of fire with security forces in Kulgam district of Jammu and Kashmir on Saturday, police said.

A police spokesperson said that the security forces on Saturday morning launched a cordon and search operation based on intelligence inputs about the presence of militants in Hardmand Guri village in Kulgam.

He said that during the exchange of fire, four militants were killed and weapons and ‘war-like stores’ were seized from the scene of the encounter.

The killed militants were identified as Aijaz Ahmed Naiko alias Moosa s/o M Iqbal Naiko r/o Chimmer DHpora Kulgam (active since 22/08/2018); Shahid Ahmed Malik s/o M Sadiq r/o Khull DHpora Kulgam (Active since 08/04/2019); Waqar Farooq s/o Farooq Ittoo r/o HCgam, Kulgam (Active since 18/03/2020) and; M Ashraf Malik alias Sadam r/o Arwani Anantnag.

All the slain militants were affiliated with Hizbul Mujahideen, sources said.

From encounter site one AK47 rifle, 2 magazines of AK47, one SLR, one Ansas Rifle, one Chinese pistol, one Ansas Magazine, and two magazines of SLR were recovered, police said.

In this regard FIR 32/2020 U/S 307 IPC, 7/25 IAACT has been registered in P/S DHpora, said the police.
