Srinagar, Mar 06:  Police in Kulgam Friday claimed to have solved a blind murder case within 24 hours.

Gioving details, police said Police Station Qaimoh had received information regarding presence of a dead body in an HP Oil Tanker (JK02AV-1625) parked on the roadside near Kurdwani bypass on the national highway.

The deceased was identified as Partap Singh, son of Onkar Singh, resident of Jajarkotli, Jammu.

A case (FIR no.08/2020 U/S 302 IPC) was registered, during investigations police zeroed-in on a suspect identified as Sukhdev Singh, son of Keer Singh of Sair Rakhwalan, Domana, Jammu, police statement said.

It said a police team was deputed to Jammu for arresting the suspect, who was nabbed from Anand Nagar, Jammu. During questioning, he confessed his complicity in the crime, police said.

According to the police, the accused has disclosed that he came to Qazigund on March 02, and enticed the deceased tanker driver to sell the Kerosene oil loaded in his tanker to a private person known to the accused. The fuel was sold for Rs. 7.70 lakh and the proceeds were transferred to the bank account of accused on March 03, 2020.

Subsequently, the accused along with victim arrived at Khudwani bypass and parked the tanker near a bridge there.

“During the night (intervening March 03-04), the accused conceived a plan to murder the victim with the intention of grabbing the whole amount which had already been transferred to his (accused Sukhdev Singh’s) bank account,” police said.

Police said Sukhdev Singh assaulted the victim and hit his head with stone and also attacked him with a knife till he died, following which he boarded a private taxi from Khannabal Sumo Stand and fled to Anand Nagar Jammu, where he was putting up in rented accommodation.
