Efforts underway to enlist Mughal Gardens on UNESCO World Heritage sites

SRINAGAR, MARCH 04: In order to preserve and promote heritage treasure of the Valley, government is taking serious efforts to bring famous Mughal Gardens on the map of World Heritage site of UNESCO.

The Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Baseer Ahmad Khan today chaired a meeting to review the preparation of nomination-dossier for listing of Mughal gardens on UNESCO sites.

Abha Narain Lambah is the project consultant for the preparation of nomination dossier.

On the occasion, she gave a detailed power point presentation to brief about preservation and promotion of heritage sites of Shalimar, Nishat, Pari Mahal, Achabal and Verinag besides initiatives being taken to bring heritage sites on UNESCO map.

Around 38 World Heritage sites located in the country were listed in UNESCO but J&K has no such listing.

The Divisional Commissioner assured that all necessary support will be provided for the dossier preparation.

He directed district administration, officers of Smart City, Floriculture, LAWDA, Tourism and other concerned agencies to provide information and necessary support to the project consultant.

The Divisional Commissioner stressed concerned officers to show dedication in the project so that the Valley’s famous Mughal gardens will be enlisted in UNESCO world heritage map.

Deputy Commissioner, Srinagar Dr Shahid Iqbal Choudhary, Additional Commissioner Kashmir Bilal Ahmad Bhat, Director Archives, Archeology & Museums Muneer-ul Islam, Director Tourism Nisar Ahmad Wani, VC SDA Vikas Kundal, VC LAWDA Tufail Mattoo, Chief Engineers of KPDCL, R&B, ADC Srinagar Syed Hanief Balkhi and other concerned officers were present in the review meeting.
