Srinagar: The Irrigation and Flood Control Department on Thursday said there is no flood threat anywhere in Kashmir, with the water level in the Jhelum River remaining below the alert mark.

Chief Engineer, Irrigation and Flood Control, Showkat Hussain, said the river’s water level is expected to start receding from midnight as the intensity of the ongoing rainfall decreases.

“There is no need to panic. The water level in the Jhelum is below the alert level and is likely to recede from midnight,” Hussain said.

He said south Kashmir, which contributes significantly to the Jhelum’s inflow, has received comparatively less rainfall during the current wet spell, reducing the likelihood of any flood situation.

Hussain also appealed to the public not to pay heed to rumours or unverified messages circulating on social media regarding flood threats and advised people to rely only on official information.
